Itinerante, Marco Antonio, Denario, 32-31 a.C., Ag (3,45g x 18mm); D/ ANT AVG; III VIR R P C; galera rivolta a destra. R/ LEG III; aquila legionaria tra due stendardi. Crawford 544/15; Varesi 771. Splendido esemplare di alta qualità; ottimamente centrato; bel metallo; patina da medagliere.

La Legio III Gallica fu costituita da Giulio Cesare nel 48 a.C. per combattere Pompeo Magno. Il suo cognomen ci suggerisce che probabilmente i suoi componenti furono reclutati in Gallia. Dopo la morte di Giulio Cesare passò nelle mani di Marco Antonio e fu decisiva nella campagna partica del 36 a.C.. Il suo simbolo era il toro.
